What are testosterone steroids?

Testosterone steroids are natural compounds that fall into the class of compounds called androgen hormones. Although testosterone steroids had been suspected since ancient times it would be the 1920’s before researchers had the technology to start isolating testosterone steroids. Finally in 1935 the Organon company in the Netherlands isolated testosterone steroids and wrote about them in scientific papers. They came up with the name testosterone as the compound was produced by the “testes” and was a “sterol-ketone” chemical.

Where are testosterone steroids produced?

In males about 95 percent of testosterone steroids are produced in the testes. In females most testosterone steroids are synthesized in either the thecal cells of the ovaries or in smaller quantities by the placenta. In both sexes small amounts of testosterone steroids are also produced in the adrenal glands as well as by the adrenal cortex. Typically, an adult human male body produces about ten times more testosterone steroids than an adult human female body, but females seem to be more sensitive to smaller amounts of testosterone steroids. .

How are testosterone steroids synthesized?

As with most androgen hormones testosterone steroids are primarily synthesized by starting with the precursor molecule cholesterol. In males this occurs in specialized cells in the testes called Leydig cells. Once produced specific plasma protein then carry testosterone steroids to the various target glands and tissues throughout the body.testosterone

What roles do testosterone steroids play in human physiology?

Testosterone steroids are among the most powerfull compounds in the guman body. In males testosterone steroids are responsible for the development of the male reproductive glands including the testes and prostate. At puberty testosterone steroids also stimulate the development of the secondary sex characteristics such as increased muscle and bone mass and hair growth. In addition, testosterone steroids are vital for overall health and well-being.

Are there synthetic forms of testosterone steroids?

Testosterone steroids were among the first steroid chemicals to be isolated and synthesized in the lab. Most medically used testosterone steroids are still manufactured in labs.

How are testosterone steroids taken?

There are many routes of administration to introduce testosterone steroids into the body. The most common is injectable using a needle. The popular athletic testosterone steroids testosterone cypionate and testosterone enanthate are given this way. Most injectable testosterone steroids use oil as a base medium. Other less popular routes of administration for testosterone steroids are oral, transdermal skin patches, and transdermal creams or gels.

What are the medical uses for testosterone steroids?

Once they were first isolated and the many benefits recognized it wasn’t long before testosterone steroids began to be used for medical purposes. The primary role was was for the treatment of males who have too little or no natural testosterone production. This is called replacement therapy and helps maintain serum testosterone steroids levels in the normal range. Other uses for testosterone steroids over the years include treating infertility, lack of libido or erectile dysfunction, osteoporosis, penile enlargement, height growth, bone marrow stimulation and reversal of anemia, and even appetite stimulation. It’s not surprising that by the late 1940s testosterone steroids were being touted as anti-aging wonder drugs.

Are testosterone steroids legal?

As of 1990 testosterone steroids and anabolic steroids were reclassified as controlled substances. It is still possible to receive testosterone steroids legally from physicians by prescription but only after tests determine that you need it for legitimate medical reasons.
